Honoring Memory of Heroes of Great Patriotic War and Great Famine
President of Ukraine and Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Honored Memory of Heroes of Great Patriotic War and Great Famine (Holodomor) of 1932-1933.
In the park of Glory the head of the Ukrainian state Victor Yushchenko together with His Holiness the Patriarch laid flowers to the Eternal Fire at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
At the memorial to the victims of the Great Famine (Holodomor) the Patriarch and the President put down symbolic compositions – the pots with candles and planted a bush of arrowwood.
Victor Yushchenko thanked the Patriarch for this step. “I always underscored that the tragedy of 1932-33 is not the guilt of the Russian nation. Today we have to be in solidarity over each victim of this Great Famine. We highly appreciate that You, your Holiness, in this holy square, honoured the victims of the Famine of 1932-1933”, said the President.
On his part Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia said that the Famine of the thirties was caused by definite political factors and reinforced by natural cataclysms, which resulted in the great number of innocent deaths. “There is nothing strange that we pray for the innocent victims, commemorate those who had deceased and pray that nothing of the kind would ever repeat”, said Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Ukraine.
