On July 27 His Holiness Patriarch Kirill met with the Prime-Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov. Mykola Azarov underscored that promotion of spirituality is a positive priority of our state.

“We will do everything in order that the churches were built and monasteries revived without obstacles”, Mykola Azarov said. “In particular, the government passed a decision that during a year all the institutions and organizations having no relation to the monastery and the reserve will be removed from the territory of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra”.

Also the head of the state expressed satisfaction of the fact that the pastoral visit of Patriarch Kirill to Ukraine takes a good course, and attracts great attention of the orthodox world.

His Holiness Patriarch Kirill thanked the head of the government for his support in organization of the visit, which, to his opinion, “may serve an example for many other states”. The Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church underscored that he himself and the clergy will pray that wisdom, experience, love of his nation, that he sees in Prime-Minister of Ukraine, revealed themselves in this office and bring good fruit for people.

“For we observed the people with hell in their souls, being in charge of the secular activities, brought about dissent and ruination”, His Holiness the Patriarch noted and added: “I felt that it is in Ukraine that the most considerable potential among the countries of the former Soviet Union exists. There are economics, nature and active people. Therefore I have no doubt that the people of Ukraine will pass through the complex period and obtain new historical victory”.
