GREEK ORTHODOX CHURCH TO GIVE UP ASSETS TO STAVE OFF CRISIS

(AGI)Athens-The Greek Orthodox Church is willing to give up part of its vast wealth to help the country fight the economic crisis. Greek Finance Minister Evangelos Venizelos announced as much at the end of a meeting with Archbishop Ieronymos II, the country’s highest spiritual authority.
The Archbishop claims to be “very optimistic regarding the potential for cooperation with the Church on practical means to alleviate the suffering of those who are most in need”. The clergyman stated that the talks were “very constructive” and promised that “the Church will continue to fight for people in these crucial times”.
