Greek Orthodox Church in the US Petitions UN Over the Conversion of Hagia Sophia

USA: The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of USA is petitioning the United Nations in response to the conversion of the iconic Hagia Sofia Orthodox Cathedral into a Mosque by the Erdogan government in Turkey.
The Greek Archdiocese wants the U.N. special rapporteurs in the areas of cultural rights, minority rights, freedom of religion to hold Turkey responsible for the purposeful and deliberate attempt to wipe out the history and heritage of the Orthodox Church.
Amid widespread international protest, Turkish President Erdogan issued a decree in July 2020 that declared the change in the status of the Cathedral.
