Filat, Shevchuk to Mount Athos to pray at old monasteries
Chisinau, July 16, Interfax – Moldovan Prime Minister Vladimir Filat and Transdniestrian President Yevgeny Shevchuk flew on a private jet to Greece to visit Mount Athos.
The politicians flew out to Thessaloniki on early Sunday morning accompanied by Metropolitan of Chisinau and All Moldavia Vladimir, sources from the Chisinau Airport told Interfax.
“The Moldovan and Transdniestrian leaders flew out to Athos on a private visit to jointly pray at the ancient monasteries on Mount Athos,” Moldovan Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Igor Volnitsky told Interfax.
During the visit Filat and Shevchuk will also discuss “the Transdniestrian settlement process and other issues of mutual interest,” the press secretary said.
Filat and Shevchuk have already met in informal situations: at football matches in Tiraspol and at the concerts of Lara Fabian and Julio Iglesias in Chisinau.
