Farewell to Fr. John Behr; “Taught by God” Releases

I used to joke that being the first person to answer a question from Fr. John Behr in his patristics class was basically volunteering to offer the first wrong answer! I’m sure any student of Fr. John’s can relate. That’s because he was so good at destroying the erroneous assumptions of overly-confident seminarians and opening our eyes to the writings of the Church Fathers more deeply than we had ever experienced.
I am so thankful to have been wrong so many times (!), and experienced the incredible teaching of Fr. John during my time as a seminarian. I join the entire community of St. Vladimir’s Seminary—seminarians, alumni, faculty, staff, and friends—in wishing Fr. John and his family many years, as he departs the Seminary to begin a new chapter in his distinguished academic career. While a public farewell reception as initially planned was not possible due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Seminary honored Fr. John at his last Faculty Council meeting.
