Experts: Catholicos must visit St. Nshan church in Javakhk

1/4/2011

“There are nearly 200.000 Armenians in Javakhk now and only three churches are able to serve them. An assisting institute also acts, but it isn’t enough to discuss the problems between Armenian and Georgian churches and give the appropriate solution for them,” Valeri Arabyan, the chairman of the “Lernashxarh” union told the journalists today.

“Organizations, which act in Javakhk, have aimed to create a diocese since the SU collapse. If there is a Javakhk diocese, the church will be nearer to the people,” Mr. Arabyan added.

According to the chairman of the “A-info”, Artak Gabrielyan, Armenians in Javakhk are also endangered to be influenced by Turks. As the speaker noted, Turks try to buy apartments, make investments and trade in Javakhk.

The speakers also touched upon the theme of Armenian Catholicos’s coming visit to Georgia.

“If the Catholicos visits Tbilisi and won’t visit Javakhk, I think this visit is in vain, especially if the Catholicos won’t visit the Saint Nshan Church. We applied to the Catholicos and asked him to visit Saint Nshan, which is seriously endangered to become Georgian soon,” V. Arabyan noted.
