Donetsk – Ukraine: Last month a group of Belarusian Orthodox Christian volunteers headed by a writer Nikolai Gavrilov visited the Ukrainian regions devastated by an ongoing civil war. Belarusians went to the armed conflict area in order to give humanitarian aid to the civilians living in the suburbs of Donetsk.

The situation in the region of Donetsk still remains unstable. There are continuous cannonades in the villages Oktyabrski and Spartak, people in Spartak live in cellars in order to hide from shellfire. The 92 residents of the village, including 2 children who are 9 and 14 years old, struggle for life, surviving without water, gas and electricity.

This photo report gives the details on the visit to Donetsk region. You can see here the destroyed monastery of Our Lady of Iviron, located near the ruins of the Donetsk airport, the nursery of the village Oktyabrski and the people living in the village of Spartak. All the photos were taken in December 2015.
