Ethiopian Orthodox Epiphany Added to UNESCO’s World Heritage List

Addis Ababa-Ethiopia: UNESCO announced the addition of the Epiphany Celebration of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church to its ‘intangible heritage list’ on 11th December 2019. Following the UNESCO announcement, a press release was made in Addis Ababa by His Holiness Abune Mathias – Co-Patriarch and Chairman of the Holy Synod.
The venerable members of the Synod expressed their greatest joy on the registration of the Ethiopian Orthodox Epiphany as an intangible heritage by UNESCO. The Synod hailed the addition of Ephiphany to the heritage list as a genuine Ethiopian achievement in the international arena and urged Ethiopian Orthodox Christians to preserve the tradition, customs, and the true faith of their fathers with integrity and unity.
The Synod thanked all stakeholders who were involved in the heritage registration process namely UNESCO, FDRE government, the EOTC faithful, and Ethiopian communities worldwide.
