Ethiopian Church Honors Prime Minister & First Lady of Ethiopia with the ‘Golden Gospel’ Award

Addis Ababa Ethiopia: Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed and First Lady Zinnash Tayachew were received at the Patriarchate of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church by Patriarchs Abune Merkorios and Abune Mathias. The Prime Minister and his wife were accorded the highest dignities during the ceremonial welcome.

Patriarch Abune Mathias decorated the Prime Minister with the award of  ‘Golden Gospel’ and gold embroidered cloaks, in recognition of his role in the reconciliation of the Holy Synod of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church, the peace with Eritrea, and the re-awakening of the Ethiopian patriotism.

Prime Minister Abiy in turn handed over the keys of a newly renovated house for Patriarch Abune Merkorios that will better serve his medical care needs. The house previously served as the residence of the Mayor of Addis Ababa.
