Press release from the Holy Synod of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church.
Addis Ababa-Ethiopia – The press release was presented by the Co-Patriarch of the Church – His Holiness Abune Mathias. The press release acknowledged the Nobel Prize awarded to the Ethiopian Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed and also expressed the support from the side of the Ethiopian Church to the Prime Minister and his government for the efforts taken to bring lasting peace in the country.
The Holy Synod called her faithful and all citizens of Ethiopia to contribute to nation-building. The Synod announced the establishment of an organized public relations department, aimed at alerting the faithful prior to future emergency situations. The Synod also approved emergency and permanent funds to support the persecuted Orthodox Christians in the Oromia region. The funds will be used to resettle the faithful (who presently live in Church buildings) to their villages. This will be initiated after the completion of the visit of the Holy Synod mission commission (under the leadership of Archbishop of Dodola).
The Synod approved to accept an official invitation from the Sankt Ignatios Theological Academy (centered in Södertälje city, Sweden) for academic training. The Ethiopian Church will cooperate with the academy to train clergy and faithful in Ethiopian theological studies.
The synod also discussed the bilateral relations between the Ethiopian Orthodox and the Russian Orthodox Churches and passed a resolution to further strengthen the relationship.
