Eparchial Assembly of the Archdiocese of Bucharest

Today, 22 January 2015, the working session of the Eparchial Assembly of the Archdiocese of Bucharest was held at the Patriarchal Residence. The meeting was chaired by His Beatitude Daniel, Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church. His Grace Varlaam Ploiesteanul, Assistant Bishop to the Patriarch, His Grace Ieronim Sinaitul, Assistant Bishop to the Patriarch, and His Grace Timotei Prahoveanul, Assistant Bishop to the Archdiocese of Bucharest were also present.

During the meeting the activity unfolded in 2014 was presented and proposals for the present year were made.

To start with, according to Trinitas Radio station, His Beatitude Daniel, Patriarch of Romania delivered the synthesis report of the activity unfolded in 2014: “The social philanthropic activity of the Archdiocese of Bucharest in 2014 was organised within several charitable institutions. Thus, the “Joy of Help” Foundation provided permanent hospitalisation through the centre of palliative care of Saint Hierarch Nectarie to 417 patients, and Vasiliada social chemist’s supported 300 disadvantaged aged persons, and the “Saint Stelian” Daily Centre for children of Urlati city provided daily educational and material support to 30 children. Diaconia Association supported 90 persons through the emergency accommodation centre for the mothers-victims of the domestic violence within “Patriarch Justinian” settlement of Bucharest, and “Saint Hierarch Nicholas” accommodation centre for homeless persons of Campina provided accommodation, food, social and spiritual assistance to 71 persons. “Saint Martyr Sofia” daily centre of Bucharest provided various typical services to 40 children, and the old people’s home from Pasarea Monastery provided services of residential type to 30 persons in case of risk, of social exclusion.

1197 persons in distress were helped through the “Joy Meal” programme. The total value of the products distributed amounted to about 640,000 lei.

Then, the eparchy’s activity unfolded last year was analysed and estimated in commissions. To end with, the reports of the commissions on the activity of the Archdiocese of Bucharest in 2014 were submitted for approval and the priorities for 2015 were established.

The eparchial assembly is the deliberative body for all the administrative, cultural, social-philanthropic, economic and patrimonial issues of the eparchy. It is made up of 30 representatives of the clergy and of the lay faithful.
