Divine Services Held in the Residence of St John (Maximovich)
Divine Services Are Held in the Residence of St John (Maximovich) at St Nicholas Cathedral, Where He Died in 1966
Russian Church Outside Russia
There is a chapel now in the former residence of St John (Maximovich) of Shanghai and San Francisco at St Nicholas Cathedral in Seattle, WA, where the saint died in 1966 while accompanying the Kursk-Root Icon of the Mother of God, the Protectress of the Russian Diaspora. On the feast day of the saint, Saturday, July 3, Protopriest Alexei Kotar, the Senior Priest of the Cathedral, celebrated Divine Liturgy here along with the Cathedral’s other clergymen.
The above is snap lovingly taken by Sergei Kalfov, a long-time parishioner of St Nicholas Cathedral. Mr Kalfov had last year participated in a large pilgrimage to the holy sites of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, during which he donated the armchair in which St John died to Svyatogorskaya Lavra.
