Moscow, January 14, Interfax – Actor Gerard Depardieu, who has recently received the Russian citizenship, expressed his attitude to members of the Pussy Riot group, convicted for “punk prayer” in the Christ the Saviour Cathedral, and to the Russian opposition.

“Imagine, if those girls came to for instance in mosque, they would not leave it alive. Even in the Catholic world it would be frightening. But when I speak like that in France, I am believed an idiot,” said Depardieu in an interview to Vesti Nedeli TV programme.

As for the Russian opposition, that, according to the actor, “it is nothing, though has many very smart people, like Kasparov, but it’s good for chess and all”. The policy is, as he says, “much more difficult”.

As an actor I can say there were very different timers in the Russian cultural history. When you see the dancers of the Bolshoi Theater, when you see Valery Gergiyev, when you listen to Olga Borodina, Russian Opera or admire Nuriyev, only this is by and large and has a value. This is the most important in the Russian history,” Depardieu said.
