Cooperation Between the Serbian Orthodox Church with the Ministry of Justice

His Holiness Porfirije, the Serbian Patriarch, received Maja Popovic, Minister of Justice of the Republic of Serbia at the Serbian Patriarchate in Belgrade, on May 21, 2021.
The meeting discussed further improvement of the cooperation of the Serbian Patriarchate with the Ministry of Justice. To that end, the need for additional affirmation of free expression of religious teachings and beliefs, development of freedom of religion and coordinated cooperation of the Church with state bodies was pointed out. The necessity of joint engagement in order to protect the heritage of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Kosovo and Metohija, as well as the need to improve the social and material position of monasticism, was especially emphasized.
The interlocutors concluded that the cooperation of the Ministry of Justice and all state bodies with the Serbian Orthodox Church is necessary for the preservation and development of national and cultural identity and resolving issues of national importance.
On behalf of the Ministry of Justice, the meeting was attended by the head of the Cabinet, Marijana Savic Simic, and the Director of the Office for Cooperation with Churches and Religious Communities, Vladimir Roganovic.
