On May 16 and 17, with blessings of His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, a conference entitled “The Armenian Church and Education, Science and Culture” was convened in the Vache and Tamar Manoukian Library and Manuscript Repository of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin. The conference was organized through the initiative of the Office of Ecclesiastical Issues of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, in collaboration with the World Council of Churches Inter-Church Charitable Round Table Foundation; and the United Nations Population Fund. The purpose of the conference was to comprehensively analyze and evaluate the role, historical experience and the modern challenges of the Armenian Church in the spheres of education, science and culture.
His Grace Bishop Bagrat Galstanyan, Director of the Office of Ecclesiastical Issues of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin; gave opening remarks, reflecting on the goals and projects of the Office of Ecclesiastical Issues. Bishop Bagrat was hopeful that the themes of the current meeting would assist in creating a document for the Armenian Church on education, science and culture.
During the two day discussion roughly 20 experts from the respective sectors and public organizations presented their reports. The attendees identified a wide range of issues concerning the discussion topic, and the resolution of those issues will be included in the issues paper of the Armenian Church.
