Cluj Metropolitan: Roma People Are Our Fellow Christians. We Want To See Them Thrive
Basilica News Agency – 31/8/19
In a message sent Wednesday on the feast of Saint Moses the Black, the Orthodox Metropolitan of Cluj said that Roma people are ‘our fellow Christians, and we want to see them thrive spiritually and materially.’
His Eminence Metropolitan Andrei Andreicuț recalled that the Roma Association of the Archdiocese of Vad, Feleac and Cluj is protected by Saint Moses the Ethiopian and urged everyone to support the Romani community.
Two parishes were established within the Archdiocese to serve the spiritual needs of Roma people.
The first parish is at Pata Rat, ‘where Fr Gelu Savarasan built two churches for the Roma, serving in them alternatively,’ the Metropolitan said.
The second parish is protected by Saint John the Forerunner and is located in Turda. ‘There serves father Marin Trandafir Roz, who is also of Roma ethnicity,’ His Eminence stressed.
Reminding that at the Judgement Day, Christ will judge everyone according to the deeds of Christian charity, Metropolitan Andrei called on the parish communities in the Archdiocese to have “the proper attention towards the Roma communities who are poorer, more distressed, more tried, and always to help them”.
The Metropolitan’s message was also published in Romani language on the website of the local Renasterea Radio station.
