Church will not favour any political party in elections, Patriarch Kirill Promised
Moscow, May 25, Interfax – Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia intends to continue a dialog between the Church and political forces regardless of any election results.
“We are holding our Council in a very eventful year. Russia is facing an important choice which will define its life for many years to come,” the Patriarch said Wednesday in Moscow at the 15th World Russian People’s Council focused on the basic national values.
He stressed that “the Church has no intention to be involved in the political struggle or favour any party but it will pursue a dialog with all political forces to be jointly committed to people’s and country’s well-being.”
At the same time, he continued, “the society still suffers the vacuum of values that can be clearly understood by all public.”
According to the Patriarch, people should not lose their lives and restrict themselves for the sake of purposes which are today disseminated as the main human values.
“Hardly anyone would risk his or her l life only to enhance the consumption standards. But such material values are offered today as strategic and most important ones,” Patriarch Kirill stated.
