*** The best tribute to Yegor Sviridov’s memory should be not revenge and slogans, but consolidation of society

Moscow, January 15, Interfax – The Russian Orthodox Church urges society to work so that Russia lives not under the law of jungle and mountains, but under God’s and human laws.

“Evil will cut short Yegor Svirodov’s life (killed FC Spartak fan – IF) – life of a young man who could bring great use to the Motherland,” head of the Synodal Department for Church and Society Relations Archpriest Vsevolod Chaplin told believers at a requiem service for Sviridov on Saturday evening at Moscow Church of St. Nicholas on Three Hills.

Nevertheless, the priest further said, the killed man left this world “not on his own will, but on the will of those who boldly, boorishly through violence and murder tried to explain us who claims to be a master in our house.”

According to Father Vsevolod, the best we can do for the reposed is “not sorrow, despair, appetite for the revenge, political slogans and discussion, but our prayer so that the Lord accepts soul of innocently killed servant of God Georgy.”

Father Vsevolod urged to pray for the late, and to pray and work so that “nothing of the kind will ever take place in our country, in our city,” to lift up our prayers so that the Lord gives peace to Russia.

“We know how dangerous is to divide people on ethnic grounds, it can destroy Russia, deprive us of the future. But we know exactly, how dangerous is injustice, when the crime remains unpunished, when people who don’t have shame and conscience try to break our will, deprive our people of its independence, spirituality, freedom,” the priest said.

He urged “to help each other, to support each other, to pray for Russia and work for its future, to spare no effort so that our life is guided not by the law of jungle or mountains, but by God’s law and human laws that work always and everywhere.”

Summing up, Father Vsevolod wished that the best tribute to Sviridov’s memory became “our work to set up powerful, wise, strong, united Russia.”
