Pope Shenouda and Hillary Clinton Only Addressed Personal Issues and not Copts’ Situation in Egypt
The Coptic Orthodox Church has said that Pope Shenouda III, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of St.Mark’s Church, and US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton quickly met at Cairo University following US President Barack Obama’s speech, but they did not deal with Copts’ situation in Egypt.
The bishops accompanying the Pope during the speech said the two held a friendly conversation and talked about nothing special.
Dr. Tharwat Basili said that Mrs. Clinton and the Pope have known each other since her husband Bill Clinton was US President. “She stood up and greeted the Pope immediately after the end of the speech and asked him about his health” he added.
Bassily said that it took Pope Shenouda a long time to leave the hall because of the crowd. He said the Pope cannot walk amid the crowd because of his age and his leg injury, which makes his movements slow.
