Church Destroyed On 9/11 Files Suit Against Port Authority

The only church destroyed in the September 11th attacks is suing the Port Authority in an effort to resurrect their house of worship.
St. Nicholas Church and the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America say suing the Port Authority is a last resort in the effort to replace the building that stood at 155 Cedar Street.
The church says the Port Authority abruptly reversed course in 2009 on an agreement to rebuild the church about 100 yards from the original location, in the shadow of the Twin Towers.
St. Nicholas claims the agency has sent bulldozers onto both potential sites and excavated to a point where building right now is impossible.
In a statement, the Port Authority says the church increased its demands following a 2008 agreement and reconstruction at the World Trade Center site would have suffered had the agency not moved on.
In a statement, the agency says, “The Orthodox Church continues to have the right to build a church on their original site, and, as we indicated last December, we remain open to meeting with Orthodox Church representatives, but they have thus far refused to meet, choosing to initiate litigation instead.”
