‘The Church and the religious art in Northeastern Romania represent true cultural landmarks that attract visitors from all over the world,’ Romania’s Minister of Culture Bogdan Gheorghiu wrote on Facebook, AGERPRES reports.
The statement was made following a meeting of the minister with a delegation of the Archdiocese of Suceava and Radauti, held at the ministry’s headquarters on October 7, 2020.
The archdiocese was represented by the diocesan councillors Archdeacon Vasile M. Demciuc and Fr. Constantin Oprea.
During the meeting, several aspects regarding the cultural activity and the conservation and restoration of the historical monuments within the Archdiocese of Suceava and Radauti were punctually established, the archdiocese noted in a press release.
“The Minister especially appreciated the fact that special attention is paid to cultural activity and the conservation and restoration of monuments within the Archdiocese of Suceava and Radauti, as well as the new vision of His Eminence Archbishop Calinic regarding the revival of the above activities.”
The priorities stated by the archdiocese regarding the patrimony were welcomed by the ministry.
In the opinion of Minister Gheorghiu “when we talk about the patrimony of the churches, we are talking about a culture developed around them, of moral and correct principles.”
“In fact, each segment of Romania’s cultural heritage represents an ambassador of the past, but also of the present and opens the doors to domestic and international tourism.”
Emilian Gamureac, Director of the Historical Monuments Department within the Ministry of Culture, was also present at the meeting.
