MUSCAT – Sultanate of Oman: Jesus Christ’s resurrection after three days of crucifixion symbolizes love, forgiveness, sacrifice and belief. By implementing or following this, one can realize the full meaning of resurrection which should be a way to provide ‘light to bond all people together.’
This is the message of Easter delivered by HG Dr Yacob Mar Irenios, Indian Orthodox Malankara Metropolitan of Kochi Diocese (Kerala, India), to the Orthodox faithful in Muscat. The Metropolitan was the chief celebrant for the 2016 Passion Week programmes at the Mar Gregorios Orthodox Maha Edavaka (MGOME) Muscat.

Resurrection or Easter is a big festival for mankind since the festival symbolizes hope, peace and solidarity, Mar Irenios, said adding that Easter also signifies victory over death.
“Death had been haunting mankind since time immemorial. However, with the resurrection of Christ, there is a big assurance and new meaning to the entire episode. A door of hope has been opened due to the resurrection,” the Metropolitan added. Just as Jesus Christ conquered sin, Satan and death, human kind also needs a victory from these three evil forces. Man must not venture to be selfish but live and be of helpful nature to others. “Let
us not fear death but rejoice over it due to the resurrection of Jesus which itself is an assurance to us.”
The Metropolitan who pointed about the recent terror bombings in Brussels and in Paris last year expressed his anguish over the killings and unlawful attitude which itself is an ‘attack on man’s conscience.’ These incidents are a matter of deep concern for each one of us and we must strive hard for love, peace, and solidarity among each other, Mar Irenios remarked.
Metropolitan Mar Irenios is also an acclaimed orator, philosopher scholar and intellect. His Grace recently obtained his second doctoral degree and also has four other post-graduate degrees academically.
Fr Jacob Mathew, Vicar/President, Fr Kuriakose Varghese, Associate Vicar, MGOME Executive Committee and members of the managing committee, have also extended their Easter greetings to members of the Maha Edavaka. Ahmebabad Diocese Metropolitan HG Pulikkottil Dr Geevarghese Mar Yulios, also extended Easter greetings to the faithful on the occasion.
