Christmas Holy Qurobo – Damascus
Syriac Orthodox Patriarchate – 29/12/18
On December 25, 2018, His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II celebrated the Christmas Holy Qurobo at St. Georges Patriarchal Cathedral in Bab Touma – Damascus.
Their Eminences: Mor Timotheos Matta Al-khoury, Patriarchal Vicar in the Patriarchal Archdiocese of Damascus, Mor Timotheos Matthew, and Armenian Orthodox Archbishop of Damascus Armash Nalbandian, assisted His Holiness in the Holy Qurobo.
His Excellency Dr. Hammoudeh Sabbagh, Speaker of the Syrian Parliament, attended the Holy Qurobo.
In his sermon, His Holiness said that our Lord Jesus is “the King who has no like, for His kingdom is not of this world; He is a King who does not wait for anyone to serve Him, for He came to serve our humankind”; he added “He is the King who seeks not war or injustice or oppression, but always calls for peace and love; this is why Isaiah calls Him the Prince of Peace”.
His Holiness invited all the faithful to “rest assured reciting the words of Job the righteous while in hardship: ‘I know that my Redeemer lives’ (Job 19:25). Let us surrender our lives to Him for whoever seeks Him shall never be disappointed”.
At the end of his sermon, His Holiness prayed for all who suffered the evil of wars in Syria and throughout the Middle East. Then, he offered Christmas greetings to all Syriac Orthodox faithful and all Christians in Christmas.
