“Christianity, Nation, and Civilization” International Conference Held in the Mother See

Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin – September 2014

With the blessing of His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, an international conference entitled “Christianity, Nation, and Civilization” is being held from September 26-27 in the Vatche and Tamar Manukian Library at the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin. The conference is being organized under the initiative of the Mother See Museums, in cooperation with the WCC Armenia Inter-Church Charitable Round Table Foundation, and is attended by representatives from Armenia, Germany, Austria, Belarus and Iceland.

On the agenda for discussion at the conference are the following questions:

  • What is the place and role of Homeland, Nation, and Language within the concept of Christianity?
  • Is it necessary to adhere to a Christian civilization today?
  • How do the culture of Church and Christian influence the Christian’s worldview and his attitude towards nature today
  • Christianity and tolerance in today’s society.

On September 26, papers on the various topics will be presented by Rev. Fr. Asoghik Karapetian (Armenia), Davit Ghazarian (Armenia), Anna Arevshatian Armenia), and Andreas Lois (Germany), Fr. Joakim Gerhard (Germany). On September 27, papers will be presented by Fridrich Schleinzer (Austria), Elisabeth Mayer (Austria), Eva Wissenbacher (Austria), Thorhallur Etterson (Iceland) and Victor Yazikovich (Belarus).

Within the scope of the conference, exhibitions will be held in the Armenian Center for Contemporary Experimental Art: ACCEA/NPAK; with the participation of artists from the nations represented at the conference, as well as works from students of the P. Terlemezian Fine Arts State College, on the theme “Christianity, Nation, Civilization”.
