CHRISTIAN REFUGEES HAVE BROUGHT INTEREST IN CHRISTIANITY TO EUROPE, SAYS PRIMATE OF POLISH ORTHODOX CHURCH

Christian refugees from the Middle East contribute to the spread of interest in Orthodoxy across the globe and its adoption in the countries receiving them, Metropolitan Savva of Warsaw and All Poland, the primate of the Polish Orthodox Church, has said in an interview with RIA-Novosti.

“Migration from the Middle East is contributing to the expansion of Orthodoxy! Why? There was no Orthodoxy in Western Europe before the Second World War, but now it exists there. Those who have fled there, escaping from conflicts are currently arranging their Church life there and ‘infecting’ others with it. For example, it was inconceivable that our Church would have a parish in Brussels, but today there is,” said Metropolitan Savva, answering questions on contemporary challenges to Christianity.

According to him, Christianity in the West has largely diverged from its roots, which to a certain extent has led to the crisis. Metropolitan Savva believes that amid the “prevalent promiscuity” the world community is becoming more and more interested in “conservative” Orthodoxy, therefore the Church must take this opportunity.

“I believe that the twenty-first century is the century of Orthodoxy,” he is convinced.
