Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II of Georgia Receives Honorary Doctorate from the Tbilisi Theological Academy

Tiblisi- Georgia: His Holiness Ilia II Catholicos-Patriarch of Georgia was decorated with the title of honorary doctor by the Tbilisi Theological Academy and Seminary on the 5th October 2020. The event was attended by Her Excellency- President of Georgia, Mrs Salome Zurabishvili – the Speaker of the Parliament, several dignitaries and Orthodox prelates.

During the event, it was announced that the doctorate was presented to His Holiness Ilia II for ‘his outstanding contribution to the worldwide recognition of the autocephaly of the Orthodox Church of Georgia, the revival of the Church, development of theological education and sciences, the establishment of the higher theological school – Tbilisi Theological Academy, spiritual strengthening and unification of the Georgian nation’.
