Catholicos of All Armenians Receives Vice President of Uruguay
On December 9 in the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians received Mr. Danilo Astori; Vice President of the Eastern Republic of Uruguay, and his delegation.
At the meeting the Catholicos of All Armenians expressed satisfaction for the development and strengthening of Armenian- Uruguay relations. His Holiness recalled his two pastoral visits to Uruguay and noted with appreciation that he has always felt the benevolent attitude and respect to the Armenians by the nation’s authorities. The Armenian Pontiff noted that the Armenian sons and daughters who survived the Armenian Genocide and established life in Uruguay, today offer their dedicated service bringing important contributions to the country’s development, being involved in all aspects of life.
During the conversation His Holiness also expressed gratitude to the Uruguay authorities for being the first in the world to recognize and condemn the Armenian Genocide, adding that the Armenian people appreciate this action with special gratitude.
The Vice President of the Eastern Republic of Uruguay expressed joy on the occasion of his visit to the spiritual center of all Armenians, noting that the aim is to contribute to strengthening the spiritual ties between the two countries. In his remarks Vice President Astori confirmed that Armenians are part of the Uruguay society and greatly contribute to the strengthening of relations between the two countries.
The Catholicos of All Armenians and the Vice President of Uruguay made a particular reference to the necessity in strengthening spiritual values in today’s world, noting the importance of the mission of the Church. Noting freedom and peace as high values, they confirmed that only by its protection and strengthening is it possible to ensure the welfare of humanity in the world.
