Catholicos of All Armenians Met Teachers from the Armenian Church Youth Centers
On October 15, Teacher’s Day, in the Vatche and Tamar Manoukian Library, His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians; received 140 teachers of the Armenian Church Youth Centers; operating under the auspices of the Mother See and the AGBU. They were accompanied by Rev. Fr. Komitas Hovnanyan, Dean of the Youth Centers.
On behalf of the teachers, Fr. Komitas made remarks of appreciation, noting that the teachers were gathered in Holy Echmiadzin to hear the message of His Holiness, and with the blessings of His Holiness, to become rejuvenated and strengthened in their mission.
His Holiness Karekin II blessed the attendees. His Holiness first expressed his appreciation to Father Komitas, then to the Directors and Teachers of the Youth Centers, for their dedicated and diligent service.
“We are constantly reviewing the activities of the Youth Centers and we are happy with the achievements which have been recorded there”, said the Catholicos, expressing hope that over time, there will be Youth Centers in all of Armenia’s major regions, where as a result of the diligent work of the priests and teachers; young Armenians will strengthen their gifts and talents, and receive a spiritual education.
The Catholicos of All Armenians stressed that by its nature, the system of the Youth Centers of the Mother See is different from like institutions, as first of all not only education, but discovery and refinement of talents and abilities is important for the formation of moral character. His Holiness added that the mission of the teachers of the Youth Centers is to create patriotic individuals and worthy children.
At the conclusion, His Holiness asked that the Holy Right Hand of God protect and bless the teachers, and the Youth Centers continue on their path to prosperity and progression.
Today, roughly five thousand children and teenagers are attending eight Youth Centers in Yerevan, Gyumri, Etchmiadzin, Vanadzor and Ashtarak.
