Malankara- India: His Beatitude Abune Thomas I (Catholicos and Metropolitan Trustee of the Syriac Orthodox Church in India) has praised His Holiness Baselios Paulose II (Catholicos on the Apostolic Throne of St. Thomas and Malankara Metropolitan). In a recent interview (on 90th birthday anniversary), Catholicos Baselios I stated even though disagreement and conflict exist between two Churches (Jacobite Syriac Orthodox Church and Indian Orthodox Malankara Church), love remains in the hearts of faithful and hierarchy.

The Primate also stated that while he was a Priest in Thrissur, he used to visit the home (of Catholicos Baselios Paulose II) and have stayed there on several occasions. Catholicos Thomas I also added that he has never come across any provocative statements (about him) from Catholicos Baselios Paulose II. Abune Thomas I also said that he is not interested in accusing Malankara Orthodox Church. However, there must be a permanent and constructive solution for the Church conflict.

Jacobite Syriac Orthodox Church (Patriarchate of Antioch and All East) and Indian Orthodox Malankara Orthodox Church (Catholicate of the East) remains divided over an age-old conflict, even though both Churches are in communion through the Oriental Orthodox family. In July 2017, the Supreme Court delivered a decision in favor of the Malankara Orthodox Church and its constitution (1934).
