Bulgarian Holy Synod Blesses Initiative of The Standart
The Relics will be carried in an armoured vehicle.
The holy relics of St. John the Baptist will be transported in an armoured vehicle from the coastal town of Sozopol to Sofia on Friday. The car will be escorted by police squad.
Yesterday the Holy Synod blessed the idea of The Standart daily and gave its permission the relics of St. John the Baptist to be displayed for worship in Alexandar Nevski Cathedral Church. The relics will arrive at 17:00 on November 12. They will be strictly guarded by police patrols and the Interior Ministry will be in charge of the security of the relics, while they are on display in the church.
Bulgarian Patriarch Maxim will serve a liturgy for health and prosperity of the Bulgarians. All metropolitans from the Holy Synod will attend the service.
Vice premier Simeon Djankov pleaded before the Holy Synod for carrying the relics to Sofia. The two vice premiers ? Simeon Djankov and Tsvetan Tsvetanov have sent a letter to the synod assuring the authorities will provide support in the transport and guarding of the relics.
The initiative of The Standart to ask Bulgarian Orthodox Church to authorize the display of the relics in Sofia was inspired by the begging of the 40-day fast before Nativity feast. The relics of St. John the Baptist will remain in Sofia three days. However, if there is pilgrims? flow the Synod might prolong the stay of the relics.
