DAILY PRAYERS OF THE ETHIOPIAN ORTHODOX TÄWAḤƎDO CHURCH – TRANSLATED BY OCP DELEGATE OF UK AND All IRELAND – ARCHDEACON TÄSFA MIKAʾEL WILLIAMS.
On Sunday the 28th of April 2019, the Feast of the Lord’s Resurrection, at ṢärḥaṢəyon St. Mary of Zion Ethiopian Orthodox Täwaḥədo Church, London, Archdeacon Täsfa Mikaʾel Williams’ first book was launched. The announcement of this launch was greeted with joyful ululations and clapping at the conclusion of the Paschal Divine Liturgy.
This high-quality publication, entitled Daily Prayers of the Ethiopian Orthodox Täwaḥədo Church: Pocket Edition, includes English translations of the prayers that the clergy recites by heart during the daily liturgies of Matins, Vespers and the Divine Liturgy. They are also by far the most popular prayers amongst the laity. Several of them had not previously been translated, and thus appear together for the first time in this book. The list of prayers included is: Common Prayer, the Veneration of Mary, the Gate of Light, the Angels Venerated Her, the Mälkʾ of Mary and the Mälkʾ of Jesus. These translations are preceded by a concise introduction to prayer in the ETOC Tradition, and there is an appendix with relevant texts at the end. The book also includes full-color Ethiopian iconography, such as that of Rev. QesägäbäzHayläMäsqäl Samuels.
