Beirut-Lebanon: Two huge explosions that rocked the city of Beirut on 4th of August Tuesday killed more than 78 people and injured over four thousand. It has been reported that the main blast at Beirut’s port was due to the ignition of an estimated 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate.
Sts. Peter and Paul Syriac Orthodox Church and the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of Saint Georges were damaged in the explosion. The explosion also damaged churches like St Dimitrios, St Nicholas, St George near the hospital, St Catherine Zahrat el Ihsan, Dier el Saydeh etc.
St George Hospital of the Greek Orthodox Church has been severely damaged as a result of the explosion. Patients have been transferred to nearby hospitals. The hospital needs reconstruction. Four nurses lost their lives in the explosion. Several doctors, patients and their bystanders were injured as well.
