On 16 June 2014, Basilica.ro news website of the Romanian Patriarchate celebrates 6 years of life. Basilica news agency of the Romanian Patriarchate was set up with the blessing and care of His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel on 27 October 2007, at the feast of Saint Dimitrios the New, Protector of Bucharest, at the same time with Basilica Press Centre, having been one of its branches, besides Trinitas Radio, “Lumina” publications and the Press Office.

In 2008, the feast of the Holy Trinity was on 16 June, on which occasion basilica.ro news website was launched in the presence of His Beatitude Daniel, Patriarch of Romania, in Europa Christiana hall of the Patriarchate Palace.

Over 60,000 information, documents and news on the activity of the Romanian Orthodox Church have been published by basilica.ro website in its six years of life.

Basilica News website is the means by which the church daily realities are presented in the virtual space, reflected in the prompt reflection of the ecclesiastic event unfolded in the Romanian Patriarchate at all its levels. Given the large number of visitors of basilica.ro website and the technical need to improve it in order to meet today’s bigger needs compared to the beginning of its activity in 2008, and the blessing and care of His Beatitude Daniel, Patriarch of Romania, the website benefited of more improvement: on 30 September 2010 a special new graphic interface was launched, and on 27 October 2012, at the feast of Saint Pious Dimitrios the New, Protector of Bucharest, the present version of the website was launched. At present a new version of basilica.ro website of the News Agency of the Romanian Patriarchate is being prepared to be launched in the second half of 2014.

Ever since launched basilica.ro has had an interface in the English language. The main events in the life of the Romanian Patriarchate are publicized in this language of international circulation showing that Basilica News Agency is a voice of the Romanian Orthodox Church at international level too.

The structure of basilica.ro website is complex and easy to read by a large range of viewers. The website is structured in two main sections, the former focused on the news at the central level of the Romanian Patriarchate, and the latter on the news of the eparchies of the Romanian Orthodox Church from the country and abroad. These sections present the religious events within the Eparchies of the Romanian Patriarchate, official communiqués of the Romanian Orthodox Church, documents, as well as articles on various religious, social and cultural themes.

Basilica.ro website of the News Agency of the Romanian Patriarchate is the most important source of news on the life of the Romanian Orthodox Church in the virtual space, a thing reflected by the fact that the majority of the laic press from Romania, as well as most of the ecclesiastic press from the country and abroad take over the official information of greatest interest in the life of our Church from the website of our agency. In the Romanian Orthodox environment, basilica.ro website confirms the need to assume the ecclesiastic conscience proving responsibility, strict observation and constructive approach in the press.
