Artsakh – The Azeri terrorists bombed the Armenian “Ghazanchetsots” Holy Saviour Cathedral this morning. This marvel of Armenian architecture rests in the city of Shushi in the Republic of Artsakh now under attack by terrorists from Azerbaijan, Turkey and imported jihadists.
Standing 35 metres high, Ghazanchetsots is one of the largest Armenian churches in the world. The Holy Savior Cathedral was built between 1868 and 1887 on the historic Armenian territory of Artsakh. After the Shushi Massacre of Armenians by Azeris in 1920, the church closed down.
When Artsakh was under the rule of Soviet Azerbaijan (based on Stalin’s gerrymandering decree), the church was used as a granary and later as a garage. The statues of angels in front of the church were also destroyed at that time. The church was in ruins until Armenian liberation, and the dome was destroyed. The Azeris’ GRAD missiles were being stored there during the Artsakh War.
The Church was completely restored after the Armenian liberation of Shushi in 1994 and has been active since 1998. Today, the Armenians vow to rebuild it. Again.
