Arts group seeks Pepsi grant to restore Church
The Tribune-Democrat
— The Venue of Merging Arts, a nonprofit located in the Cambria City section of Johnstown, is in the running for a $50,000 grant from the Pepsi Refresh Project and is reaching out to the community for its support and daily votes.
VOMA’s mission is to rescue a historically significant former church structure from falling into disrepair by transforming it into a venue to promote, educate, entertain and involve the community in the arts.
Once open, the facility will provide local artists and artisans a venue in which they can promote their work and share their talents with the local community.
The organization, which is housed in the former St. George’s Serbian Orthodox Church on Chestnut Street, plans to use the restored building to host activities and events.
Grant funds are being sought to complete structural renovations to the historic building so that the space can be fully open to the community.
Voting will continue through the end of November.
VOMA is encouraging people to vote daily using three different methods:
• The Pepsi Refresh Project website at www.refreshevery-thing.com/VOMA
• By visiting http://pep.si/cDFKUi
• By texting 103848 to Pepsi (73774).
There is no charge to vote.
