The year 2016 marks the 350th anniversary of the first Bible printed in Armenian, by publisher Voskan of Yerevan. On this occasion, the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin is organizing a series of events aimed at re-evaluating this extremely important event.
With the blessing of His Holiness Karekin II, Catholicos of All Armenians, the Gevorkian Theological Seminary and the Vatche and Tamar Manoukian Library, have jointly organized the conference: “Armenian Translation of the Holy Bible and Its Publication in the Evolution of History”,
Lecture and Discussion topics for the conference are being sought in the following three categories:
1. Analysis of the original Armenian translation of the Bible
A reflection on different variants and the uniqueness of the Armenian translation compared with the translations in Hebrew, Greek, Syriac, Latin and other languages, as well as original additions and omissions.
2. Historical analysis of the Armenian translation of the Bible
Analysis addressing the issues of historical developments, the canon of the Bible, Jashots and publications relating to the Armenian translation of the Bible.
3. Theological analysis of the Bible
A study of the Old and New testaments from a theological viewpoint by specifically referencing the original Armenian text. Topics can include analysis of the full sections of the books of the Bible, as well as separate or specific sections of the books of the bible.
Please submit your lecture topic proposals to the Gevorkian Theological Seminary by August 31st, 2016. Please note that the academic papers of the conference will be included in a published volume devoted to the 350th anniversary of the first printed Armenian Bible.
