12/29/2011

The dream of Mesrob II Mutafyan who has not been able to perform his patriarchal duty due to his illness has finally come true.

The Armenian Church Vortvots Vorodman (Children of Thunder) was restored within the scope of projects of 2010 Istanbul European Capital of Culture and inaugurated by Turkish Customs and Trade Minister Hayati Yazici.

“It would be wrong to assess Turkish-Armenian relations within the scope of only a short period of time, namely, the World War I. The friendly relations between Turks and Armenians date back to approximately 1,000 years. Turkey’s views about 1915 incidents are based on archives, documents and scientific researches,” said Yazici.

Vortvots Vorodman Church, which had been opened for worship on October 14, 1828, has not been used since the World War I.
