Armenian Church in Sivas (Sebastia) to Reopen as Museum
Public Radio of Armenia – November – December 2019
The 19th century Armenian Surp Asdvadzadzin Church in Gurun district of Sivas (Sebastia) will reopen as museum, Akunq.net quotes Turkish sources as saying.
The General Directorate of Cultural Heritage and Museums has provided 3,987,000 TL (about $700.000) for reconstruction works, said Gurun Mayor Nami Ciftci.
At different times the church has been used as prison, movie theater, storeroom, and wedding hall.
After reconstruction is completed, the 2․615-square-meter building will be transformed into a city museum and function as a cultural events hall.
The Mayor hopes the reopened church will help boost the development of tourism in the region.
