Archpriest Vsevolod Chaplin calls to give Russians a chance to influence and govern Policy
Moscow, February 21, Interfax – The Moscow Patriarchate calls to give Russian people a chance to independently shape its future.
“Russians indeed should be given a chance to spread their wings, to perform the mission which they want to perform in their country and across the world and remove the impediments which prevent common people from influencing and governing policy,” head of the Synodal Department for Church and Society Relations Archpriest Vsevolod Chaplin said in the Judge for Yourselves program broadcast by Pervyi Canal.
According to him, “the elite that have currently taken over cultural, information and most political spheres seem to believe they are wiser than the rest of people.” Fr. Vsevolod, however, believes that “this is not true: people know better than the elite how to create the future of the country.”
The priest noted that Russia had always enjoyed the advantage of uniting various ways of life and legal and political systems.
“We do not need to be taught how to reduce peoples to the same level, it is useless and irrelevant; we need peoples who wish to live by one rules and peoples who wish to live by other rules to agree how they may best meet this challenge which is quite possible to do,” Fr. Vsevolod believes.
When asked to state “the great Russian dream”, he said: “Russia should be the intellectual and spiritual center of the world uniting and reconciling the East and the West.”
