Archbishop of America Demetrios has called a meeting of leading Greek Americans and Cypriot American organizations to discuss the situation in Cyprus and share ideas in order to find ways to help the Cypriot people. The meeting will be held on April 3, at the headquarters of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America.
Among those attending are prominent members of the Greek-American Community, such as the Vice Chairman of the Archdiocesan Council Michael Jaharis, businessman George Tsunis, etc.
Cypriot Minister of Foreign Affairs Ioannis Kasoulides is also expected to address the attendees by teleconference and inform them of the latest developments, highlighting the country’s needs and briefing them on the solidarity fund which the House of Representatives has decided to set up.
One of the many proposals to be raised, is the coordination of efforts made by various Cypriot-American and other organizations to pledge funds to various crisis-stricken philanthropic and non-profit Cypriot organizations.
Archbishop Demetrios of America has spoken on the phone with the President of the Republic of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades and strongly expressed the support and solidarity of the Diaspora during these very hard economic times Cyprus is going through.
