Almaty Akim, Metropolitan Christopher of Prague discussed issues of Tolerance

Almaty Mayor Akmetzhan Yessimov and Head of the Orthodox Church of the Czech Lands and Slovakia Christopher of Prague met in Almaty on Tuesday to discuss the issues of religious tolerance; the Mayor’s press service told Kazinform.
“Almaty is the largest city in Kazakhstan. Its population is constantly growing. 95 percent of the population practices Islam and Christianity. For us it is important that representatives of these two major religions make great efforts for religious education of youth. Thanks to the wise policy of President Nursultan Nazarbayev representatives of 120 nationalities and 40 confessions live in peace in our country,” Yessimov said.
Metropolitan Christopher told he held meetings with Metropolitan of Astana and Almaty Alexander, representatives of clergy of Kazakhstan.
According to him, the Orthodox Church in Kazakhstan praises the Kazakh government policy in the sphere of religion.
As part of the fraternal visit to Almaty, Metropolitan Christopher laid the foundation stone for the future building of St. Nicholas Cathedral. In addition, the Metropolitan of Czech Lands and Slovakia attended Sunday School, which was presented by the Kazakh President to the Orthodox Church in Kazakhstan.
