Ahmedabad Diocese under Metropolitan Yulios to give priority to education sector, plans international school and ashram
Indian Malankara Orthodox Church – 18/4/13
AHMEDABAD ~ In a major decision, Ahmedabad Diocese under HG Pulikkottil Dr Geevarghese Mar Yulios, has decided to give top priority to education sector. Realizing this, Ahmedabad Diocese aims to further the cause of education for Orthodox children and others in Gujarat and adjoining states.
They have formed a special committee to make the proposed St Mary’s International School a reality.
The Diocese, registered as a public trust, recently purchased a prime 4.1 acres of fertile agriculture land located about 16 kilometres from Ahmedabad International Airport in Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar Greater City (AUDA – Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority) limits. The plot is located on Nikol Road, Naroda, Ahmedabad and they have paid an amount of Rs 1 crore as advance for the prime property.
Recently the Diocese Council members who met in Ahmedabad decided to commit themselves to contribute a minimum of one month’s salary either fully or by installments in six months time. Others may also contribute to the project according to their wish.
The Diocese still faces a deficit of Rs 2.5 crore to complete the formalities with the deadline being 5 months by August 2013. This will complete the formalities towards acquiring the property in the name of Ahmedabad Diocese towards the prestigious St Mary’s International School (proposed). The plot falls outside the periphery of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and promises to develop rapidly in the years ahead.
The new executive committee of Muscat Mar Gregorios Maha Edavaka which met this week under Dr Mar Yulios decided to appoint senior member and educationist and MGM Group of Schools Chairman Mr Geevarghese Yohannan as convenor for the project.
The Metropolitan explains the proposed residential international school will have CBSE syllabus. Plans are also afoot to build a Orthodox chapel, a funeral vault and a ashram for those willing to take up monastic life (boys and girls)
Dr Mar Yulios hopes and prays the Almighty will guide and show the Diocese a way out.
In order not to let go this great opportunity of having an International School in the name of St Mary’s, the Diocese faithful in India and abroad must come forward towards rendering all help towards this just cause.
