One day Fr Nektarios Serfes was walking around a village in Kosovo.

“What beautiful apples!” he told Bishop Teodosije of Raska-Prizren who was with him at the time.

“Thank God for the apples,” said the Bishop. “It is all our brothers have to eat.”

I am writing about our brothers in Christ – Orthodox Serbs who live (actually, they struggle to survive) in Kosovo.

Now, what do the Serbs have to do with me, you might ask yourself?

If it weren’t for the help of the Serbian Church, you and I may not have been blessed with our Russian Orthodox tradition today.

It was the Serbian Orthodox Church that gave most aid to the exiled Russian clergy after the Russian Civil War. The Serbian Church acknowledged the status of ROCOR, and helped Her as much as possible during the turbulent years of the 20th century, despite enduring persecution Herself.

So I am hoping you will find it in your heart to help our brothers and sisters in Christ in Kosovo.

They are constantly suffering from the radical Muslim influence: their livestock and farm equipment is stolen, they are beaten and tortured, and their places of worship are desecrated. Many children do not have shoes. Families are denied basic healthcare. You won’t hear about this on mainstream media.

“These people survive only on the Jesus prayer,” Fr. Nektarios Serfes told me.

Archimandrite Nektarios, a priest from Boise, ID. He heads the Decani Monastery Relief Fund, which gives all its proceeds to the aid of the population of Kosovo.

March 21 – April 21 the Fund for Assistance is conducting a joint fundraising drive with the Decani Relief Fund to help for our Serbian brothers in Christ. As always, 100% of your donations will go to the cause.

Any sum you give will be accepted gratefully and will help tremendously!

$25 will buy a week’s worth of food for 1 person

$75 will provide shoes for 3 people

$150 will buy clothes for 4 people

$300 will buy a milk goat

$500 will buy a refrigerator for a family
