A colloquium on the preservation of St. Thomas Christian Heritage

KOCHI, KERALA, INDIA: The Association for Preservation of the St. Thomas Christian Heritage (APSTCH) hosted a colloquium on the efforts to digitize the ancient manuscripts and inscriptions that document the heritage of the St. Thomas Christians in India. The meeting was held at Ernakulam on September 8, 2010, Wednesday. Several linguists and historians from international and local universities participated. Notable participants included Archbishop Most Rev. Dr. Mar Aprem (Chaldean Church), Dr. Hubert Kaufhold (University of Munich), Dr. Hidemi Takahashi (University of Tokyo), Dr. George Kiraz (Beth Mardutho: The Syriac Institute and Publisher, Gorgias Press, New Jersey), and Fr. George Kurukkoor (Old Malayalam linguist).

Dr. Istvan Perczel (Tubingen University, Germany and Central-European University, Hungary) and Dr. Susan Thomas (Sree Sankaracharya Sanskrit University, Kaladi, Kerala) presented the accomplishments of the digitization project initiated in 2005 that has digitized a large collection of endangered documents which are now being prepared for online and print publication as well as scholarly study.
