Rev. Protosingelos Petroniu Tănase Passed Away

On 22 February 2011, the community of Prodromu Romanian Skete of Mount Athos lost one of their symbolic personalities. Rev. protosingelos Petroniu Tănase, the former abbot of the monastic settlement passed away at about 16.00 hours, Romanian hour – informs Trinitas Radio station. The funeral service will take place Thursday, 24 February 2011, according to the monastic rules of the Holy Mount.
Rev. Petroniu Tănase was born in 1914, in Fărcaşa commune, county of Neamţ. He took the monastic vows in the community of Neamţ Monastery, graduated theology, but he also attended studies of mathematics and philosophy. His love for a distinguished spiritual life made him go to Holy Mount Athos, where he arrived in 1978. Very appreciated and loved both in Greece and in Romania, Rev. Petroniu was a father confessor, librarian and abbot of the Romanian settlement of Mount Athos.
Father Petroniu Tănase had recently retired from the leadership of the skete. Hieromonk Atanasie Floroiu was elected instead on 6 February 2011.
