Commemoration of the 70th Anniversary of Katyn’s Crime

On 25th September at Polish and Ukrainian cemetery in Kharkov-Piatichatki celebration of 70th Anniversary of Katyn’s crime took place. 4329 prisoners of war from Starobielsk are buried there.

President Komorowski was the head of official delegation from Poland. He was accompanied by Ukrainian prime minister Mykola Azarow. In Kharkov ecumenical prayers and calling of a roll of honour took place for officers murdered by NKVD. Secretary of Council of Protection of the Memory of Fight and Martyrdom Andrzej Krzysztof Kunert, members of Katyn’s Families organization, representatives of Kharkov’s municipal authorities and region and representatives of Polish military chaplaincy were also present.

Bishop ordinary Jerzy (Pańkowski) accompanied by auxiliary bishop of Kharkov’s diocese of UOC – Onuphry, archbishop of Izyum, prayed for the victims of totalitarianism, who are buried there.

Guards of honour of Polish and Ukrainian armed forces also took place in the celebration.
