Gevorgian Seminary Opens for 2010-2011 Academic Year

Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin

On September 14, 2010 the opening ceremony for the 2010-2011 academic year of the Gevorkian Theological Seminary of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin was held. Participating in the opening were the members of the Brotherhood of Holy Etchmiadzin, members of the faculty and administration and seminarians.
On behalf of the seminary administration, Rev. Fr. Tiran Petrossian, Vice Dean of the Gevorkian Seminary made opening remarks. Congratulating the seminarians on the start of the new academic year Father Tiran stated that the administration was confident that 2010-2011 would be an academic year of new achievements and successes. The Vice Dean also extended his appreciation to His Holiness Karekin II, for his care and continuous attention to the Seminary, and also thanked the staff for bringing vibrancy to the Seminary life and for their devoted work with the students.

Addressing the seminarians, Father Petrossian stated in part, “May your entrance to the Seminary be blessed with God’s grace and the light of Providence, and may the Right Hand of Almighty God give you strength. I raise my prayers to Heaven asking God to grant all of us with everlasting grace, wisdom and success”. Following the presentation of the musical program of spiritual and national songs, Stole Bearer Armen Sahakian expressed his gratitude on behalf of the student body.

To close the ceremony, His Eminence Archbishop Voskan Galpakian delivered a message of blessing on behalf of the Brotherhood members. “Dear students, you are the soldiers of the Armenian Church and this service brings high honors. Today I look at you with joy, and more with great hope. Create values for youself, as Christ has commanded, values which are everlasting for you, for the Church and for our nation. See success and happiness of your life within the achievements of the Church; live, be excited and happy with Her. May God bless you, so that by the wish of St. Gregory the Illuminator, St. Ghevond Yerets, and Catholicos Khrimian Hayrik; you become the soldiers under the roof of this Seminary”,- stated His Eminence in part.

This year, 14 first year students have been admitted to the Gevorkian Seminary joining 114 students who will study during this academic year. The teaching staff includes 22 clergyman and 28 lay professors.

The opening ceremony of the 2010-2011 academic year for the Vaskenian Theological Academy of Lake Sevan was held on September 12, 2010. This year 24 first year students have been admitted, joining 41 seminarians will study at the Vaskenian Academy during this academic year.
