From Thursday on an official visit to Poland paid archbishop of Nizhny Novgorod and Arzamas George. On Sunday hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church visited Białystok.
Archbishop George visited churches in Białystok, including Hagia Sophia, Saint Spirit and the Resurrection. Throughout the visit hierarch was accompanied by archbishop of Bialystok and Gdansk Jakub. In the afternoon, archbishop Jakub and archbishop George celebrated all-night vigil in the cathedral of St. Nicholas in Bialystok.
Today, archbishop George will attend the ceremonies of dedication of the church of the Resurrection in Bobrowniki.
The delegation of diocese of Nizhny Novgorod and Arzamas also includes father Vitaly Grudanow (Chairman of the Protocol and the diocese’s spokesman), ihumenia Sergia (superior of the monastery of St.Trinity and St. Serafim in Diwiejewo), father Żelezniakow Andrei and deacon Vitaly Miszarin.
Diocese of Nizhny Novgorod and Arzamas is situated in south-western European part of Russia. It was created in 1672. The bishop of the diocese has it’s abode is cathedral of St. Alexander Nevsky in Nizhny Novgorod. Within the Diocese there are 14 monasteries, including the Monastery of St. Trinity and St. Sergius in Diwiejewo in which relics of St. Seraphim of Sarov are kept.
