Memorial chapel restored at Russian cemetery in Port Arthur
Moscow, September 2, Interfax – Russian public organizations in Chinese Port Arthur (known today as Lushun ) restored a military memorial where ashes of over 17 thousand Russian and Soviet warriors are buried. The restoration was timed to the 65th anniversary of Victory in World War II.
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev is expected to attend the opening ceremony of the military glory memorial, head of the Defense Ministry administration for commemoration of servicemen killed protecting Motherland Alexander Kirilin said.
Russian restorers and Chinese subcontractors worked for three years and managed to restore about 1900 personal tombs as well as mass graves. A chapel, cast iron crosses and stars on the graves are also restored.
